What do regular people think of programmers?
I often see situations where programmers are thought of as tech support. But in reality a programmer... is just a programmer. S/He doesn't even need to know how a printer works or how to even use a printer for that matter. What might a non-techy think of a programmer at first glance?

In Mr. Smith's class, he once said, "You're going to learn how to build a computer." (We never really did...) So I was joking that for the final he would say, "Ok. Here's a pile of silicon, plastics, and copper. Build a computer."
Would have been much better than what we actually did...
Yeah, seriously. That might have actually been fun... or at least less boring. I once showed Mr. Smith some html code I had written, and he said, I quote, "That's well above me. I don't understand any of that."
the teachers at school.... well some of them (the non-ROP ones) don't really know much outside of exactly what they're already teaching.

Totally agree w/ that.
Some don't even know that much.
Wyatt's class was a nightmare for me, I knew EVERYTHING he taught. The only thing he did that I hadn't already done was flash animation and even that I had looked into a little.
It wasn't so much a nightmare just really really boring.
Urrghh. Don't get me started about Mr. Wyatt. Some other time when I don't have a headache...
I knew nothing about computers at that point and even I knew it was bullshit.
It's the type of material you would take maybe 1-2 days to learn and then forget afterwards if you were learning it for your own personal interests.
But on the plus side, Smith is blind… that’s how I’m writing all of this. I post most of my stuff from Tech. Lit. and Computer App. cause they’re both blind.
I almost posted exactly the same thing. . .
. . .Maybe she isn't in the 'tech lit' smith class he has another class. . .

I'm in computer applications. It's my elective.
But I do post from Tech. Lit. in Reyna's class.
I'm in the same room every morning

Yeah that is what I thought. In Mr. Smith's tech lit class you only ever get to touch the parts of old computers you never actually turn on any computers.
It's funny on one of Mr. Wyatt's projects for the class in HTML, I remember adding abunch of javascript because I was bored. (basicallly if he clicked on anything it popped up an intermediate popup window between the click and doing what it was supposed to and said whatever I had been thinking when I wrote that part of the javascript.)

I was horrified that his only HTML thing was actually in Javascript, I felt like he was lying to us.
It was kind of funny because in that class you only actually type the html like once and the rest of it is using dreamweaver
You guys got to use HTML AND Dreamweaver?!?!?! -_- Lucky... We had to copy his shitty javascript and use frontpage.
I found a ton of mistakes and bad coding practices in his html page we had to copy. For example, he forgot to close the "
