oh THAT stuff again
This is Alice
This is Game Maker
And this is the Warcraft 3 World Editor
What do they have in common?
They all make games/animations.
They all use very user friendly interfaces.
They are all very nice toys to have.
They are a fun way to start programming.
They are all a way for lazy people to think they can program while still have fun making games. (well actually for the wc3 and alice programs i don't think they make a .exe file, i never checked. So they don't really count as gaming programs. Plus the warcraft 3 map editor is specific to the game so i guess you do NEED to use it)
They require no pre-existing knowledge of programming.
Point I'm trying to get across: There are programs like these that exist to help noobs get into programming and make programming look fun.
DON'T YOU EVER TRY THIS BULLSHIT EVER!
people may say that it gently sweeps you into the field of programming by introducing you to thinking like a programmer. Well yes it does make you "think like a programmer" BUT WHY DO YOU NEED TO WASTE ANY TIME WITH THIS BULLSHIT? Reading tutorials and writing programs makes you think like a programmer too! By trying this pathetic excuse for a programming challenge, you are wasting valuable time that can be spent getting familiar with actual coding, the practices of good programmers, debugging programs, the syntax of difficult languages, etc etc AAAAAAAAAAAAAH STOP SPENDING VALUABLE TIME ON THIS HORSE SHIT!

"makes you think like a programmer" ?
thats a very very very loose "like"
If all you ever want to do is make a cheap game with bad graphics and a lame story line for 1 or 2 of your friends to play once or twice, then you may happily go get a program like those mentioned above and tinker away to your hearts content.
Otherwise. . .
LEARN A REAL PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE!
He he he, anyways whatev.

You just shouldn't really consider yourself a true programmer if thats all you know how to do.

Re: oh THAT stuff again
I used a program that was like that once and it was pretty damn impressive. It called multimedia fusion or some weird thing like that, but for what it allowed you to do it was really good. It allowed you to even draw your characters upload them as images and then import them to the program as animation frames for a character. It also allowed you to define behaviors and paths for projectiles and npc's.
as well as a bunch of other stuff

Yeah allen is. . . well. . .
Warcraft 3 editor is a map editor right? for an already existing game right? yeah, it doesn't fall under that category.

Re: oh THAT stuff again
Yeah, I agree. That's why it's not really a game maker at all.
