I don't think he really cares... I'll put it this way, java doesn't support keyboard input naively.

Re: java tutorial
Lol, Dr. SoBlue, I suggest instead of jumping between languages, you choose one and take some time to get moderately proficient in it. Then, if you don't like it, GOTO 10 and Try Again (Hehe Rhymes )

Re: java tutorial
Take what I'm doing for example Brad:
1) asked my "experts" in the family which language is more useful to know
2) picked one out of the list they gave
3) picked one of the books my "experts" had
4) started learning it
(btw the language in my case is C++)
I'm no programming expert, but my common-sense answer would be "YA CAN'T LEARN 10 LANGUAGES AT ONE TIME, pick the best, and lean that first, then move on to others"
Better to know one fluently, than bits and pieces of 10 of them. Right?

Re: java tutorial
you suck at learning, also we're not supposed to "teach", we're supposed to help out since teaching didn't work in the first place. There are 100,000+ tutorials out there, go find one, stick with it, try it.Dr. Soblue Landfry wrote:ya cept niether fb, c++, or batch is going anywhere

C++ is still the most commonly used programming language, last time I checked.

Re: java tutorial
yes and all of this is fine
i originally joined programming club so that i could
OMG
LEARN how to PROGRAM
buttttttt noooooooooooooooo
the club is so convoluted that we cant even decide important things without arguing.
we could get a different classroom, meeting time, and schedule so that we could have more time to learn
we could actually focus on one language until everyone learns it then have us all collaborate
instead of the people who are good at this talking with each other and showing off their programs that none the others are ever going to be able to write on their own
those who were lucky got it quick but the others are sitting there eating their lunch
then when one of us goes off and tries to learn another language that he might get far enough in to write a decent program, he learns a bit but is then given the cold shoulder when his teacher decides to go and show off his program to another smart person.
then he tries at another language
the person agrees to teach him
but then forgets all about it and gives him a program that he must download; without telling him what its for
thats why i wanted a java tutorial

Re: java tutorial
Brad, the reason it's not like that is because no one is willing to learn. They spend all of meeting time causing distractions to others. *clears throat*
I'm not blaming you (there are quite a few), but perhaps if people actually tried to learn something instead of just using it as a lunch group, then they would get things done. There are plenty of online tutorials for most languages out there on the internet. Ask in person if you can't figure something out, though. I'm sure one of us will be happy to help. However, on-your-own-learning still remains an integral portion of learning languages. The reason that we "go and show off [our] program[s] to other smart [people]" is that we have nothing else to do; no one asks for programming related help, most of the time. All we can do relating to programming is show one another our code. Again, I'm not blaming you, but I think if the club as a whole were to at least make an attempt to Program in Programming Club, instead of wasting time doing nothing, then we would actually get a lot done. Just saying. And not to sound mean at all, I'm actually saying this for your sake, if you don't like the club, then leave. I don't want you to feel obligated to be part of something you don't enjoy. If, however, you actually would like to stay, again, feel free too. Whatever makes you happy~
Anyway, nice use of the word "convoluted."

Re: java tutorial
He does that often. It's very annoying. Brent needs to actually do something instead of just showing us his drag-and-drop, cut-and-paste games every single time. He hasn't even attempted to learn any language.

Well, as useful batch is, I don't consider learning a few lines of it 'attempting to learn programming languages.'

Re: java tutorial
The club was originally envisioned as a meeting of people who already know how to program but that quickly changed because it honestly wasn't going to happen. I do agree that the club needs to be organized better but I would discourage you from quitting.
Heres what I'll do for you just because I'm such a nice guy, (and I'm thinking about advising) I will write you a basic JAVA tutorial (likely thurs-sat) and if you don't understand feel free to PM me. I know its not as good as in person but the school doesn't like me visiting and its impossible to gather you guys.
Batch is more of a scripting language than a programming language... I don't know why Brent wont learn a language or even come to the forum, would you guys work on him?
Your club needs to get organized, there are a lot of requirements (like minutes) you are supposed to follow (but aren't) so at this point you could potentially get shut down at any time.
P.S. Annie is learning LUA on her own. (as a stepping stone to C++)
