It is ALWAYS best to remain cross-platform compatible, unless the program / code you are writing involves a platform specific problem. ex: Fixing one of windows numerous bugs. . .

Anyways, lighthouse3D has some good OpenGL tutorials: Light House 3D OpenGL - GLUT Tutorial

Agreed, that's why I'm trying to setup G++ as well, but so far a lot of my code cant be copied over directly.
